What is the 'Platform' channel used for?

Post by Closetalk Support »

Close Talk Conference System consists of three infrared communication audio channels. This is sufficient in situations where delegates stay in their seats and use the delegate unit as a microphone. However, in many situations such as with parliamentary use, a platform is often used when speaking. To enable the use of the speaker list functionality in Close Talk Control with a platform, a fourth channel called "Platform" is available.

There are two ways to use the Platform functionality, the first way is with platforms equipped with regular, non-close talk microphones. The second method is with platforms using a Close Talk Delegate Unit as a platform microphone.

Functionality for a platform using a regular microphone:
  • Delegates enters the speaking list as usual by pressing the left delegate unit button
  • When the delegate is supposed to speak on the platform, the Close Talk Control operator click's the 'Platform' button
  • The delegates speaking list entry is removed and the delegate unit stops waiting for an audio channel
  • The current platform speaker name will be shown on the audio channel status bar and the Main Display until the operator clicks the 'Interrupt' button. Then the next platform speaker can be allowed to speak
The platform pseudo-channel is not an actual audio channel and Close Talk Conference System has no control over the platform audio. This means that platform speakers cannot be physically interrupted by clicking the 'Interrupt' button or automatically by a speaking time-out.

Functionality for a platform using a Close Talk Delegate Unit as microphone:
  • Delegates enters the speaking list as usual by pressing the left delegate unit button
  • When the delegate is supposed to speak on the platform, the operator click's the 'Platform' button
  • The delegates speaking list entry is removed and the delegate unit stops waiting for an audio channel
  • The platform delegate unit microphone is activated
  • The current platform speaker name is shown on the audio channel status bar and the Main Display
  • When the speaker leaves the platform, the operator shuts down the platform microphone with the 'Interrupt' button. Then the next speaker can be allowed to speak on the platform
The ID number for the platform delegate unit must be entered in the "Priority Unit" settings on the configuration menu and the "Use as platform mic" checkbox must be checked to enable this functionality.
